And it's a leap of faith, When you believe there's someone out there, It's a leap of faith When you believe that someone cares, oh, And when I call out to you, Will you be right there, Right there?
It had been a slaughter, and that was no exaggeration. Barry Allen had created time remnants of himself, at least eight of them. Enough to throw one at every angle at every side of Savitar. Keep him off balance in an attempt to take Savitar out, get him out of that damn armor and into the pipeline. Save Iris before he could implement the plan to kill her.
But it had been like he'd been expecting it, and he killed them all. One by one. Tore them apart, broke them into pieces. All but one, who was on the ground out in the field, Savitar a distant gleam of armor as he spend off with Kid Flash and Flash himself in pursuit.
He had no idea if they were monitoring them back in the labs, after all they were remnants. They were disposable. But unlike the bodies of his dead 'brothers', he wasn't vanishing into the aether. He could feel the broken armor blade in his shoulder, barely missing an artery. He could feel the broken bones in his leg and his back. The burns on his face where the mask had been ripped off and the monster in armor had grabbed him and ran before throwning him to the ground. He could feel it all, and quite honestly he was afraid. Even though he was disposable. Even though he should be gone.
So, with a shaky hand that he was pretty sure was broken if not worse, he hit the comm near his neck. Ignoring the tacky blood and gasping out: "Someone...is someone there?"
There's static. A lot of static before there's a distorted, tinny voice that responds.
"Hang on, handsome. The calvary's arriving."
A breach and out jumps Vibe, Jesse Quick, HR, Joe. Jesse and HR moving to recover the body and scour for any of Savitar's little friends. Vibe nods at the last person to come through the breach. Killer Frost herself. There's lightning, so much lightning as it looks like Savitar is making his way back. Immediately, Frost puts up an ice patch in their running path and sends a few icicles to splinter through the armor and slow him down.
Vibe and the others jump in and Frost bends down to help the remnant up, tucking herself under his arm and supporting him with an arm around his waist. She makes her way through the breach, knowing that it'll close behind her once she and the remnant arrive back at STAR Labs. She tries to move him onto a gurney in medical.
"Not my preferred way to get someone on a bed for me. Let's fix you up."
The shift changes seamlessly as she scrubs up and grabs the white coat. She keeps her comm on, just in case Frost is needed again. Caitlin moves swiftly, having had years of experience fixing up Barry. Remove the armor blade, pressure on the wound, resetting the bones in his back, his leg. Those are things that require her immediate attention.
On the comm, she hears something about having the technology at the ready to trap Savitar.
"Hey, you're going to be okay," Caitlin assures the remnant. "You're going to be all right." She sets the IV bags and the anesthesia she had developed in order to make most of the pain go away.
B was, to his annoyance, still relegated to the chair. No going off to fight, no helping anyone. He barely even left Star Labs without someone with him. Just in case.
It was starting to make him feel a little stir crazy.
And now this.
Caitlin had been missing for hours, maybe longer. There was a thing, there was always a thing. Flash was off fighting some errant ex-Devoe follower, Brainstorm or something like that. Vibe was off on Earth 19 with Gypsy, Wally was in Keystone fighting a...space star fish? Whatever.
But Caitlin's panic button went off, and neither him nor Joe nor Iris could raise her on comms. So, it was basically up to him, he decided. There was a spare Flash suit, after all. And his back felt fine. Sure, he was relegated to the chair, but that was mostly a precaution, right?
He was expecting, once Team Flash actually managed to get the drop on him managed to pull him out of his armor and get that power dampening cuff on him, that he'd be sent to Iron Heights or some other facility capable of imprisoning metas.
But, apparently, being a 'temporal duplicate' of one of the more famous heroes in the nation meant you go some sort of special treatment. Instead, he got shot up with insanely high doses of sedatives and antipsychotics and shipped off to some mental health facility he'd never heard of in a town that he'd never heard of that looked like someone had made it a personal mandate to make everything look like it was out of 1964.
He was going to kill all of them. Once he got out of here. Once he got free. But for now...well, for now he was apparently going to sit by this window and wait with a medication pump strapped to his arm and locked on.
When ever I'm around you. I go home a little bit. There's just something about you. Where the pieces all fit. There's a lightness that surrounds you. And it guides me like a star.
[ Finding people who want to be in his 'group' of metas, who want power either to help themselves, others or just lash out? It's not as hard as one might think.
Of course, he only has to find the people who had it in Flashpoint and don't remember. Like this girl, who he's found in a coffee shop. ]
Memories consume like opening the wounds I'm picking me apart again You all assume I'm safe here in my room Unless I try to start again I don't want to be the one the battles always choose 'cause inside I realize that I'm the one confused
He'd had nightmares before he 'knew' what his original future was. Trouble sleeping. Some sort of subconscious idea of what was to come, maybe. After? Well, the nightmares didn't really stop, sleep didn't come any easier. The idea that he could have become something like Savitar, it didn't sit well with him.
But they'd changed things, right? And he wasn't alone. So that meant something.

We shake from shaking with the free hand
So stand tall, shout out with me
Do your dirty work without me
Say you're best when no one can see
Stand up, catch fire with me
