It had been a few weeks since Silas had been brought to STAR Labs. Since
then, Crystal had made sure to drop by periodically. Usually when Firestorm
was not working, so that she could speak with her new friend and see how
the earbuds are working for him. He reminded her of someone who certainly
was on his own a lot, rough around the edges but she persisted. Both as the
engineer that created the very thing that helped him live a normal life,
and as his friend.
"I'm not saving him," she says one day to a nosier STAR Labs intern, "Silas
can save himself. His abilities are off the charts. And besides, it's not
like I have powers that would come in handy."
He might disagree with that. The ability to move soundwaves and the ability to control and make ice? Probably an interesting combination in there somewhere, isn't there?
He doesn't feel like anyone has to or needs to save him. Helping him learn to use his abilities? Now, that he needs and is pretty grateful for. Another incident like the one in his apartment can't happen.
He's very grateful for all of her help, and he tells people that. Often.
Her words echo down into the training room. She makes it down there in her
white labcoat and waves at him.It's funny how she's heard that Silas had
been talking about her, much to Firestorm's dismay and Frost's amusement.
He waves at her in greeting, of course. With a smile, actually. Firestorm? Certainly a man Silas avoids if he can help it. He may not always be able to, but he tries.
She falls into step with him as soon as they give him the all clear.
"The word around the lab is that you're talking to everyone and anyone
about those earpieces I've made for you. Even dad's starting to get ideas
of maybe letting me work on the firestorm matrix."
"You heard about that, huh?" Sheepish grin, but he can't help but talk about it. They're great, and clearly that means she's great since she made them. "He is? That's awesome!"
"I like creating things. Especially if it helps others. Like your hearing
aids. But if I have this on top of it, I don't know how to manage all of
that and school," Crystal admits.
"Not helpful that you've kind of got a high bar to reach. Dr. Snow has
multiple doctorates as does Mr. Raymond, who has multiple masters degrees,"
she points out.
