She isn't sure if she should shift. Caitlin wouldn't be able to withstand the heat as well. Not to mention the healing capabilities wouldn't extend to her nicer roommate. Frost tries again and again, despite being weakened to a state. She lays on the floor of the boiling room, barely able to keep herself up.

Vaguely, she could hear what sounded like the guns of the guards going off.

He could still catch a bullet. He could still throw a punch. He could do these things if he ignored every twinge and ache and explosion of pain. Getting her out of here was the priority, then he'd deal with the rest of this.

Unconscious guards got dumped near the entrance of the place, and then he made his way over to where it looked like she was being kept. A knock at the door to let her know someone was here and working on it.

Then he gets to work on phasing that lock away.

"I'm here," she rasps out.

Frost tries to push herself up and she can feel the fuzziness of blackness at the edges of her consciousness. The knock sounded rapid enough that it could only be a speedster. And speedsters were usually on her side. The clank of the lock falling on the floor is comforting. She doesn't have the strength to keep up her meta self any longer and shifts, giving into the darkness of oblivion.

Which means, of course, that once he gets that door open he'll have to scoop her up and run as fast as possible back to Star Labs to get her into medical. Which became a bit more pressing of a matter once his back stopped just hurting and started feeling like the bones were actively vibrating to pieces.

Obviously they weren't, but it was a very real sensation. An explosion of agony as he reached Star Labs, practically throwing Caitlin into Joe's arms as all limbs, bones, muscles and tendons from the lower back down practically collapsed like the world's worst game of jenga, and he went down sprawling.

Iris immediately gets BH back into the wheelchair and helps him get situated as Joe caught Caitlin and gets her to a gurney. The poor man is confused as to how to do anything. Luckily, Harry had taken to visiting today and knows enough to actually be able to set her up to replenish fluids and nutrients in her body. Once she becomes stable and is steadily accepting the medicine, Harry turns his attention to BH to fix his back.

They really need to get another gurney in here.

That really would be helpful, wouldn't it? At least there's a table for him to lay on when Harry decides he was a better look at what's going on in his back.

And what's going on? Microfractures. Microfractures blown apart when he ran to rescue her. So. He's probably lucky he didn't fully re-break any of his bones.

[snowandfrost]

At least this time, with Caitlin's notes, they'll be able to make sure that he heals faster than last time? And wouldn't be in as much agony as the first time. Meanwhile, she has enough fluid in her that Caitlin is able to change and let Killer Frost rest and recover for her. This way, at least, she could recover more quickly.

That may very well be, but he has sneaking suspicions he won't be seeing the outside of star labs again for a really really long time after this. Well. At least he got to do something, right?

Even if it was rescuing a friend.

She sleeps through the night and wakes up the next morning as Killer Frost. Not quite back to ehr old self but definitely more hydrated than the night before. She looks around, surprised that she's at STAR Labs.

Harry had, apparently, found a cot somewhere in the labs to drag into the medical unit as a sort of makeshift gurney for BH to sleep on, and it's here that he's asleep when she wakes up.

And when she wakes up, Harry is there checking her vitals in his own brand of grim-faced silence.

[snowandfrost]

"We really need to install at least two more hospital beds in here or start converting a part of this place into a medical wing," Frost comments. After a quick check from Harry, she changes back and looks over at BH, taking in the readings from his charts. Hopefully, his spine wouldn't take as long to recover as last time.

"Given how many metas you have working here, I'm surprised you haven't done it already." A fair point from Harry Welles here. He'll even take BH's chart and point out some issues with these microfractures that he's concerned no one's noticed.

[snowandfrost]

She works with Harry to come up with a way to repair the microfractures in a quicker, less painful way for BH's sake. So when he wakes up, she's actually doing the calculations for such a surgery.

In Harry's opinion, it's probably something they'll have to deal with for Barry, Jessie and even Wally at some point, so it's certainly worth looking into. BH just beat them all to it with his stunt to rescue her.

When he first wakes up, the first thing he says: "You're okay?"

[snowandfrost]

She nods.

"A little dehydrated and probably sunburned in some places but I'm okay. Thank you for coming after me."

And yes, something to definitely look into with all of the speedsters running around.

"I wasn't going to leave you there." Obviously. What kind of ridiculous nonsense would that be?

[snowandfrost]

She smiles softly and sits down on the edge of the bed. She looks a little worse for wear but medicine never sleeps. Especially around here.

"As your friend, I'm really grateful. However, as your physician," she gives him a look, "I'm concerned that you really hurt your back again."

[vivifier]

And yet, he grins at that Look. "Totally worth it." You know. To keep one of his friends from dying badly or even just being hurt.

[snowandfrost]

She shakes her head.

"You've managed to reinjure yourself and actually make it so that there's a ton of microfractures in your back. Luckily enough, it hasn't gotten to the point to...essentially set you to non-running status for the rest of your life. I'm working on a way to prevent microfractures in speedsters since it can happen to you again. Or Wally, Barry, or Jesse."

[vivifier]

His turn to frown. Not that he regrets what he did, but well. That's a horrifying thought. "Microfractures." Something he never even thought of. "Is it just in the back?"

[snowandfrost]

"Surprisingly." She turns and shows him the x-ray of his leg. "The suit would have kept your leg compressed enough to withstand the constant motion and you weren't putting that much weight on it. Strain, yes. But no more than a runner after a marathon."

[vivifier]

He sighed, taking a look at the X-Ray and nodding. "There's that, anyway." He's still not sorry, though. And he still thinks it was worth it.

[snowandfrost]

She reaches and squeezes his hand. Hugs were probably not a good idea at the moment since he was still recovering.

"Luckily, if you do not move for the next ten hours, you should be able to be back on your feet. And if you don't strain yourself," read that as run, "you should be back to new by the end of the week."

[vivifier]

"Even out of the chair?" He's more than a little excited about that, given he was still relegated to mostly the chair before his stunt.

[snowandfrost]

"Even out of the chair. But this means, you'll need to take it easy. I promise to take more note of my safety if you promise to not go speeding off as soon as you start to feel better. Deal?"
